The Applied Drama and Theatre for the Young (ADTY) program empowers students to refine their skills as both performers and teachers. As one of just six similar programs nationwide, ADTY emphasizes the interconnected nature of theatrical artistry, teaching methods, and academic research. Participants integrate techniques from diverse areas including youth theater, creative drama, applied performance, arts integration, and community-based theater. Our philosophy centers on how theatrical experiences can spark creativity, provoke thought, and enhance education for young people and communities. The curriculum offers adaptable elective options across disciplines like theater arts, education studies, special needs education, performance theory, developmental psychology, and youth literature. MFA candidates may simultaneously earn EMU's Arts Entrepreneurship Graduate Certificate. This terminal degree program accommodates full-time students (3 years) or part-time learners (up to 6 years).
