The Master of Arts in Teaching with a focus on Special Education is designed for educators—both current and aspiring—who wish to earn a graduate degree while obtaining a special education specialization (options include Autism Spectrum Disorders, Cognitive Impairment, Emotional Impairment, Learning Disabilities, or Physical/Other Health Impairment). This program caters to individuals in three distinct categories: Group 1 - Candidates pursuing teacher certification with their first special education specialization alongside a Master of Arts in Teaching. Group 2 - Already certified general education teachers (elementary or secondary) looking to expand their qualifications with a special education specialization while completing their Master of Arts in Teaching. Group 3 - Educators holding both a teaching certificate and an initial special education endorsement who wish to add another specialization area while earning their Master of Arts in Teaching. Certified teachers with any of these specializations are qualified to teach K-12 students with diverse learning needs. Throughout this program, students can access academic advising, scholarship opportunities, and engage in activities through both the Special Education department (the program's home department) and the Department of Teacher Education.
