The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program's Teacher Education track is tailored for individuals seeking initial teaching certification who hold a bachelor's degree in a non-education field. The TEML Middle Grades (6-8) concentration equips future educators to instruct students in grades 6 through 8 across two subject areas, with mathematics or science required as one of them.
When accepted into the MAT program, academic records will be reviewed to identify which undergraduate courses fulfill licensure prerequisites and whether supplementary coursework is necessary during TEML studies. Applicants without an appropriate undergraduate major in a certification area may need to complete additional undergraduate classes to satisfy state licensing standards.
Prospective students looking to transfer relevant graduate credits must adhere to graduate school policies. Note that graduate credits earned over five years prior will not be accepted. All candidates must successfully complete mandatory licensure examinations before beginning their student teaching placement.
