The Department of Sociology and Anthropology provides two Master of Arts degree options. The general sociology track is designed for students planning to pursue doctoral studies, while the applied sociology focus prepares students for practical social research careers in both private and public sectors. Exceptional undergraduates may qualify for ETSU's Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's Program. Alumni have secured diverse roles including federal probation officers, treatment center directors, research analysts, survey specialists, juvenile facility superintendents, community college professors, and human services positions across Tennessee and nearby states. Many graduates have advanced to PhD programs at prestigious universities like University of Florida, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, and others.
