Support services for addiction recovery create meaningful benefits for individuals, families, and entire communities. While these services are being adopted rapidly, the scientific understanding of their effectiveness still lags behind. There's a pressing need for more comprehensive studies to guide the development and delivery of impactful recovery support programs. This 12-hour certification program combines two established social work courses, two non-credit workshops on ethical clinical health research practices, and two new interdisciplinary classes focused on building research skills specific to addiction and recovery studies. The program targets graduate students, healthcare professionals from regional systems, addiction treatment providers, and community organizations (CBOs) engaged in or considering recovery-related research initiatives.
The criteria for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Recovery Research includes:
 A baccalaureate degree; and
A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for domestic students and 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for international students.
Application materials that must be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies include an application, essay, official transcripts from all colleges attended, names of three (3) professional references, and a résumé or CV. If a student is seeking simultaneous admission to the certificate program and another graduate degree program at ETSU, the student must submit two (2) applications. If a student is currently admitted to a degree program at ETSU and later wishes to be considered for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Recovery Research program, the student must only submit a completed application form indicating an interest in the certificate program and a dual degree form.
