The Master of Science in Physics provides in-depth education in fundamental physics principles and cutting-edge research areas. Those pursuing this graduate degree will experience an academic atmosphere designed to expand their physics expertise across multiple disciplines. The MS Physics curriculum typically spans two years.
The physics master's program includes required classes in Mathematical Physics (PHYS 501), Dynamics I (PHYS 506), Electromagnetic Theory (PHYS 511 & PHYS 512), Quantum Mechanics (PHYS 516 & PHYS 517), and Statistical Mechanics (PHYS 521 & PHYS 522). Special topics courses mirror those available in the PhD curriculum. While research opportunities exist, they are optional for MS candidates. The program has no thesis, foreign language, or comprehensive exam mandates, but maintains a 3.0 GPA minimum requirement.
