Architecture demands a distinctive combination of skills—creative vision and aesthetic awareness paired with technical expertise, cultural insight, and social accountability—all supported by strong communication abilities. Drexel's undergraduate architecture program integrates foundational studies in applied and social sciences, humanities, and diverse professional architecture courses to equip students for careers in architecture and allied disciplines. Central to this program are design studios, where students tackle meaningful design challenges by synthesizing knowledge from these varied fields.
Drexel Westphal's Architecture program provides two specialized degree paths for aspiring architects:
Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.): An NAAB-accredited professional degree pathway combining full-time and part-time study with substantial early hands-on experience in architectural practice
Drexel Westphal's B.Arch. program cultivates thorough architectural knowledge alongside core professional competencies and introductory understanding of related areas. This NAAB-accredited degree at Drexel University prepares students for professional licensure while offering exceptional early practice opportunities. Although the B.Arch. doesn't follow Drexel's traditional co-op model, students gain superior professional experience, often fulfilling most Architectural Experience Program (AXP) requirements before graduation. Depending on the chosen track (the 24 Option or Part-Time Evening Option), students can complete the B.Arch. in six to seven years. B.Arch. candidates may pursue the Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL), enabling them to complete licensing exams and achieve professional status upon graduation. Note: The program's structure makes it incompatible with J1 visa requirements for international students.
