The Religion and Society field examines the evolving relationships between religions and Christian traditions, highlighting decolonial, eco-critical, and intersectional perspectives in religious ethics, social theories, and equitable community practices. This scholarly approach considers the interconnected public and private aspects of specific social and environmental settings, historical backgrounds, diverse identities, and global solidarity movements.

Faculty research in religion and society spans multiple interdisciplinary areas, including gender, race, sexuality, and economic factors within eco-justice research, Latine/x studies, Jewish scholarship, queer theory, Black studies, cultural analysis, liberation and feminist/womanist theologies, and social activism studies. The faculty collectively emphasize the fundamental connection between theoretical frameworks and practical applications in academic research and teaching methodologies.
