The Graduate Division of Religion (GDR) trains academics and educators in religious and theological studies, demanding expertise in a specific discipline alongside comprehensive understanding of religious scholarship and diverse expressions of faith. What sets the GDR apart is its culture of cooperation and teamwork: faculty collaborating with students, theologians partnering with sociologists, ethicists joining forces with legal experts, Islamic scholars working alongside Buddhist researchers, and ethnographers teaming up with historians. The GDR serves as the hub for one of Emory University's most extensive and vibrant intellectual communities. At Emory, religion represents a core subject of scholarly investigation, engaging experts not just in theology but across multiple disciplines including African-American studies, anthropology, literature, history, law, medicine, Middle Eastern studies, neuroscience, nursing, psychology, public health, sociology, South Asian studies, and gender studies.
