The Religion Major explores religion's global impact throughout history and in contemporary society. As an interdisciplinary field of study, students investigate religious traditions through multiple lenses and methodologies. The curriculum empowers students to:
Interpret religious concepts, traditions, and trends by examining diverse sources such as sacred texts, visual arts, media, legal systems, architectural designs, and performance arts.
Examine religious diversity and spiritual experiences through frameworks including historical background, cultural and national identity, gender, socioeconomic status, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, and physical ability.
Evaluate relationships between religious communities and other aspects of human society using relevant analytical approaches.
Understand ethical principles, value systems, and moral behaviors of individuals and communities across different historical periods and modern contexts.
Through interdisciplinary coursework, specialized electives in four concentration areas, hands-on learning opportunities, and a culminating capstone project, students employ various methodologies including historical research, cultural analysis, social theories of identity, artistic interpretation, and ethical reflection.
