The Department of Mathematical Sciences provides instruction in both theoretical and practical mathematics, supporting students in achieving diverse intellectual, academic, and professional objectives. Numerous students join the department to gain essential mathematical foundations for success in natural sciences, computer science, social sciences, and business programs. These students may opt to enhance their primary major by pursuing a mathematics minor. Mathematics majors have the opportunity to undertake an in-depth independent research project through the thesis option, aligning with either theoretical or applied aspects of the curriculum. This work is conducted with faculty supervision. A minimum of 4 credits must be earned across one or two quarters before thesis submission. Prospective participants are highly advised to register for MAT 390 in their junior year.
