The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design (ID) caters to tactile, hands-on learners who will graduate with an impressive portfolio showcasing their capabilities. Studio-based courses focus on various materials, production methods, and fabrication technologies. Rigorous technical coursework in science, mathematics, and computer-aided design/manufacturing/engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) builds competencies in sketching, crafting, and engaging with physical objects. Foundational art and related design disciplines are incorporated through classes in illustration, visual communication, and user experience design. A distinctive feature of this program is its focus on creating smart objects, requiring students to delve into computer systems and programming. Departing from conventional industrial design programs, CDM's ID curriculum incorporates business strategy, leadership, and eco-conscious design principles.
Industrial designers operate as independent creators or collaborate within corporate teams. Students learn to innovate within real-world limitations, employing proven production methods. Our program emphasizes the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept to mass production, through repeated refinement and testing.
