The Latina/o/x Studies program offers students a selection of rigorous, interdisciplinary courses featuring the latest research on U.S. Latina/o communities. Our curriculum explores the rapidly expanding, diverse, and transnational Latina/o populations, examining their historical roots, cultural expressions, social realities, and enduring ties to Latin America. Students can study specific Latina/o groups within the U.S. or conduct comparative analyses across different communities. The program includes courses addressing contemporary socioeconomic and political challenges affecting Latinos, as well as those highlighting creative expression through literature, music, and visual arts. Certain courses provide hands-on experience through partnerships with Chicago-area Latina/o organizations, civic initiatives, and service-learning projects.
