The Language and Diplomacy BA concentration is structured as follows. Students must complete six 200- or 300-level courses selected from three categories: 1) target language studies, 2) translation and interpretation courses, and 3) linguistics offerings.
A minimum of two courses must be at the 300 level, and at least three must focus on a target language.
This concentration offers several pathways:
Completing five upper-level courses in one target language qualifies students for a standard language minor in that language.
Selecting three translation and interpreting courses, plus the TIC practicum (MOL 379), leads to an Undergraduate Certificate in Translation and Interpreting.
Taking three linguistics courses puts students halfway toward completing the six-course Linguistics minor.
While students may study multiple languages within this concentration, most choose to specialize in one. Applied Diplomacy majors selecting this concentration should consult closely with an advisor to ensure their course selections meet concentration requirements while aligning with their career goals.
