The importance of learning Spanish cannot be overstated. With nearly 500 million global speakers, Spanish ranks as the second most common official language in international discourse after English. Mastering Spanish creates opportunities across social, academic, career, political, and ministerial spheres, whether in the U.S. or internationally. DBU's Spanish Department delivers a faith-integrated, Christ-focused program that teaches language skills, cultural knowledge, literature, and communication abilities. We prepare students to achieve language mastery and cultural understanding while building a framework for worldwide servant leadership. Our department pursues these objectives for graduates: achieving conversational fluency in Spanish, comprehending Hispanic culture and worldview through a Christian lens, honing advanced Spanish literacy through literature and cultural studies that promote analytical skills, and gaining practical experience through service-oriented internships that apply Spanish in professional, ministerial, or vocational contexts.
