Aspiring Ph.D. candidates should submit their applications directly to the doctoral program. Alternatively, applicants may choose to enter through the M.S. program. This compact, highly competitive two-year curriculum is designed for individuals seeking to expand their computer science expertise through rigorous coursework, research projects, academic writing, and instructional experience. The program particularly suits independent learners with strong communication abilities who thrive in research settings and derive satisfaction from mentoring undergraduate students in foundational courses. Participants fulfill teaching assistant roles while receiving complete tuition coverage and a living stipend. Within Cornell's Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, the Computer Science Department actively fosters diversity, enhances representation from historically marginalized communities, cultivates an inclusive environment that nurtures belonging for all members, and advances fair practices throughout our academic community.
A Bachelor’s degree in CS is expected but applicants who have majored in another field and minored in CS will be fully considered. Applicants must have a proven record of excellence as an undergraduate grader/TA in a computer science course. Experience as an undergraduate researcher is highly recommended.
