While the focus is primarily on horticultural plants and temperate climate systems, students can also pursue graduate studies involving tropical species and cropping systems. This is facilitated by our comprehensive greenhouse and growth chamber resources, as well as opportunities to conduct thesis research in tropical regions. The horticulture graduate program faculty are based both in the Department of Horticulture at Ithaca and at Geneva's New York State Agricultural Experiment Station. Furthermore, faculty from related departments like Plant Biology, Plant Breeding, and Crop and Soil Sciences may also participate in the horticulture graduate program. Students can choose minor study areas from diverse disciplines including plant sciences (physiology, pathology, anatomy, ecology), biochemistry, botany, entomology, taxonomy, genetics, education, soil science, various economics fields, communication, agricultural engineering, and landscape architecture.
