Those pursuing a doctoral degree must select a primary field of study along with two secondary disciplines, including the option of fundamental analytical economics. During their initial year, Ph.D. candidates are expected to fulfill mathematics and econometrics prerequisites and successfully pass qualifying exams in both microeconomics and macroeconomics. Meeting these foundational requirements and securing a core committee member fulfills the criteria for the basic analytical economics minor. Individuals drawn to this area might also explore the Agricultural Economics and Management specializations. Our Ph.D. program boasts 91 faculty economists from the Economics Department and various university divisions, providing extensive academic options. Doctoral candidates can concentrate their research on diverse economics subjects, provided at least two program faculty members endorse the topic and commit to advising the student.
