Nutritional Sciences integrates multiple scientific fields, particularly biological sciences, to examine the connections between diet, nutrients, and wellness. The Human Nutrition specialization provides Biological Sciences students with coursework exploring essential and non-essential nutrients' properties and biochemical roles, dietary needs, nutrients' influence on genetic expression, and diet's impact on chronic disease prevention and management. This program encourages students to take various advanced courses that offer insights into contemporary understanding of nutritional needs and applications. Academic advisors collaborate with students to create personalized study plans aligned with their academic interests. The program also promotes gaining hands-on laboratory experience through either coursework or research projects. Nutritional Sciences faculty conduct extensive research across diverse areas, such as how nutrition affects gene activity, nutrient metabolism, and maintaining nutritional balance, utilizing methods ranging from cell culture studies to animal research and human metabolic investigations.
