To obtain an Associate in Arts Degree, students must complete at least 60 units of coursework that counts toward degree requirements, fulfilling both major and general education criteria while maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA. All courses within the major must be passed with a C grade or higher. Housed within the Social Sciences Department, the Sociology Program upholds exceptional teaching standards and fosters student-focused learning environments. Sociology examines human societies and group behaviors through scientific inquiry, featuring core theoretical frameworks with principal perspectives, foundational concepts, and supplementary theories. The discipline also encompasses methodological approaches involving research strategies and techniques. Sociologists explore human social existence, focusing on interpersonal dynamics, social bonds, and institutional frameworks across micro, meso, and macro analytical levels. Specialized sociology concentrations cover diverse fields including racial and ethnic studies, sports sociology, life course analysis, social movement research, educational sociology, family and marriage studies, and gender sociology.
