To obtain an Associate in Arts Degree, students must complete at least 60 units of coursework that counts toward the degree, fulfilling both major and general education requirements while maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA. All courses in the major must be passed with a C grade or higher. Journalists serve as information gatherers and storytellers, investigating significant topics and occurrences. They collect data through research, direct observation, and interviews with knowledgeable sources before determining the narrative structure and delivery method. Their final step involves crafting, refining, and sharing the story with audiences.

CCC's journalism program provides all students with practical training at The Advocate, our weekly student newspaper, and its online counterpart, cccadvocate.com. As a journalism student at CCC, you'll gain real-world experience in an active newsroom environment—reporting on events, capturing images, writing articles, editing content, handling social media, producing multimedia pieces, and performing all the essential functions of professional news organizations.
