An Associate in Arts Degree requires completing at least 60 units of coursework, meeting major and general education requirements with a minimum 2.0 GPA. All major courses must be passed with a C grade or higher. Geography explores the Earth's landscapes, features, populations, and phenomena through a spatial lens. Professionals in this field typically specialize in either physical geography or human geography. Physical geographers analyze natural elements like terrain, climate patterns, soil composition, flora, fauna, and water systems.
Modern geographers utilize various technologies including GIS (Geographic Information Systems), GPS (Global Positioning Systems), and remote sensing tools like aerial photography and satellite images. For instance, they might combine GIS and GPS to monitor urban expansion, transportation trends, environmental risks, natural assets, and meteorological data digitally. By merging satellite imagery with GIS layers showing demographic information, they produce detailed digital maps that help governments, corporations, and communities address challenges ranging from disaster response to urban planning and waste management solutions.
