The Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics provides a graduate program culminating in a Master of Science (MS) degree in Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. To earn the MS degree, students must successfully complete at least thirty (30) credit hours of approved graduate coursework spanning a minimum of two semesters. While an MS thesis is not mandatory, students may choose to undertake independent research worth up to six (6) credits, which can serve as a thesis equivalent. The Geotechnical Engineering specialization centers on soil mechanics and the planning/assessment of both natural and constructed earth structures.
