Columbia University is globally recognized for its distinguished legacy in human rights education and research, built over years of training top-tier human rights practitioners and fostering cross-disciplinary approaches to human rights scholarship. The Institute for the Study of Human Rights (ISHR) serves as Columbia's hub for human rights education, delivering outstanding programs that leverage these academic strengths. The interdisciplinary Human Rights Studies MA program emphasizes both theoretical and practical aspects of human rights. Participants enroll in ISHR courses alongside human rights classes from departments like Anthropology, History, Political Science, Religion, and Sociology. The program also allows students to take relevant courses from other Columbia schools, such as the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia Law School, and the Mailman School of Public Health.
Applicant must have the equivalent of the U.S. baccalaureate degree with a superior examination record and can understand rapid idiomatic English and can speak, write and read English with a high degree of facility are eligible for admission.
Applicant must have TOEFL score of 600 on paper-and-pencil test, 100 on the internet-based test and IELTS score of 7.5
