The EALAC Tibetan Studies program explores Tibet from the 17th to 21st centuries, standing as the first English-language academic program concentrating on contemporary Tibet. Scholars and graduate students pursue investigations into Tibetan history, cultural traditions, religious practices, and political developments, including the evolving relationship between China and Tibet. The curriculum provides instruction in both modern and classical Tibetan language, with all students having access to the comprehensive Tibetan collections at the C.V. Starr East Asian Library. Both instructors and learners gain additional advantages from being located in New York City, which hosts the most significant Tibetan population outside of Asia.
