The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences' Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures provides two interdisciplinary graduate programs focusing on East Asian literature, culture, visual arts, history, and languages, with special attention to comparative studies and critical methodologies. These include both a terminal Master's program and a PhD track.
The PhD curriculum, mandating at least three years of East Asian language study for admission, prepares dedicated full-time students for doctoral-level work. Participants engage in diverse courses, seminars, and colloquia aimed at developing historical perspective, analytical skills, proficiency in East Asian language texts, and advanced research capabilities. Additional details about PhD requirements can be found in the EALAC PhD Degree Program documentation.
