The Barnard Music Program offers vocal training through the Barnard-Columbia Chorus and Chamber Choir, along with private voice lessons and specialized courses like Technique in Singing and Vocal Repertoire Class. The program also features a year-long music history survey, Introduction to Music, covering Western European art music from Gregorian Chant to contemporary works. This course meets the Fine and Performing Arts requirement for General Education and serves as a foundation for the music major. Senior students can showcase their skills through a one-hour recital or complete a fifty-page research thesis. Through studio instruction, theory training, and music history courses, students develop professional performance abilities and a deep understanding of musical traditions, supported by Columbia University's Music Department resources.
