The Bachelor of Music with a Performance Concentration is a specialized degree designed to equip students for professional careers in music and creative fields as performers, entrepreneurs, and private instructors. This program also lays the groundwork for advanced graduate studies. The coursework emphasizes music history, theory, and performance, offering extensive performance opportunities through ensemble participation and solo recitals.
Program Learning Objectives
Demonstrate proficiency in performing diverse musical styles and periods while showcasing essential skills for artistic expression in evaluated performances. These competencies encompass technique, musicality, tone quality, diction/articulation, stylistic interpretation, sight-reading, rhythmic precision, and artistic presentation.
Keyboard proficiency.
Capability to compose original works or arrange existing music.
Comprehension of fundamental musical elements, organizational structures, forms, and compositional processes.
Familiarity with music history and repertoire, including significant composers and works within the specialization area, along with exposure to musical traditions beyond the primary cultural focus.
Students will additionally develop the ability to analyze musical literature from all eras through both aural and written score examination. Performance abilities are formally assessed during the sophomore year and, when applicable, in a culminating recital. Certain program tracks may mandate successful completion of supervised teaching experiences, internships, or capstone projects.
