Anthropology explores how different cultures shape people's perspectives, behaviors, and understanding of their communities. In today's rapidly changing world where cultures, ideas, and populations constantly interact, we study the emerging lifestyles and the resulting exchanges and tensions. At Barnard Anthropology, students gain fresh perspectives for observing and interpreting the world, appreciating diversity, and thinking globally while remaining grounded in the realities of daily existence. Faculty research focuses on: religious practices, media's societal impact, global interconnectedness, environmental preservation, scientific and medical advancements, technological influences, travel and economic growth, artistic expressions, and how language molds individuals and daily experiences.
