Anthropology explores how different cultures shape people's perspectives, behaviors, and understanding of their communities. In today's rapidly changing world where cultures, ideas, and individuals constantly interact, we study the emerging lifestyles and the resulting exchanges and tensions. At Barnard Anthropology, students gain fresh perspectives for observing and interpreting the world, appreciating diversity, and thinking globally while remaining grounded in daily human experiences. Faculty research covers diverse areas including: religious practices, media's societal impact, global interconnectedness, environmental preservation, scientific and medical advancements, technological influences, travel and economic growth, visual and tangible cultural expressions, and how language molds individuals and daily existence.
