The Colorado School of Mines' Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering program prepares engineers to safely and responsibly explore, assess, develop, and extract oil, gas, geothermal resources, and other subsurface fluids.
Through classroom learning, lab work, and hands-on field experience, students gain essential knowledge in key petroleum engineering areas. The field focuses on the secure and eco-friendly exploration, evaluation, development, and extraction of oil, gas, geothermal energy, and other earth-based fluids. Expertise in this engineering discipline is crucial for addressing the growing global need for hydrocarbon fuels, thermal energy, and solutions for waste and pollution control.
Graduates from our program are highly sought after, with the petroleum industry providing diverse job opportunities for students during summers and post-graduation. Career paths vary from hands-on roles in drilling and production at oil and gas fields to office-based positions in various locales. Opportunities for international travel and assignments abroad are also available for those interested.
