The Physics Department's graduate program culminates in a Ph.D. degree, with approximately 60 full-time international students currently enrolled (see map). Some students enter directly after completing their bachelor's degrees, while others join us with master's degrees already obtained.
At its core, physics research seeks to uncover the fundamental principles and mathematical frameworks governing natural phenomena. Faculty research not only maintains high teaching standards but also drives innovation across various specialties. Our professors engage in both experimental and theoretical work, publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at conferences, and authoring books - often with federal grant support. Graduate students play a vital role in these research initiatives, gaining hands-on experience in conducting original physics investigations as an essential part of their academic training.
