Physics serves as the foundational science underpinning all other disciplines, including chemistry, engineering, and medicine. Insights gained through theoretical models and high-energy experiments help us examine both microscopic and cosmic-scale material properties, develop medical diagnostics and treatments, and explore the universe's beginnings and development.
Our M.S. program aims to establish a strong foundation for either Ph.D. studies in physics or related fields, industrial careers, or community college teaching positions. The curriculum provides comprehensive academic training with options for specialized theoretical or experimental research. Graduates have achieved success across all three career paths - with approximately equal numbers advancing to doctoral programs and industry roles, while a smaller portion enter teaching positions directly.
Undergraduate education equivalent to a physics major at California State University, Fresno is necessary for admission. Note the other requirements under Graduate Program. The minimum entrance requirements are a GPA of 2.5 over the last 60 units.
