Concentrations represent specialized academic tracks that allow students to delve deeper into a specific field through targeted coursework, hands-on learning, or independent research. Students pursuing concentrations enroll in courses through the standard registration process without receiving priority access.
Therefore, students should carefully plan their course selections and prioritize concentration requirements during registration to ensure timely completion.
Students may pursue up to two concentrations, but must fulfill each concentration's requirements separately—no single course or experience can count toward multiple concentrations.
However, students may apply one course to both the Law School's experiential learning requirement and a Group C experiential course option within a concentration. Similarly, a single course may satisfy both the upper-level writing requirement and a concentration requirement.
The third-year pass/fail grade conversion option is available for graded courses that fulfill concentration requirements.
Each concentration mandates completion of: (1) at least two foundational courses, (2) three or more approved courses, and (3) either an independent research paper or an experiential course—specific requirements can be found in the drop-down menus below.
DegreeWorks offers students a personalized planning tool that syncs with the online course catalog, tracking completed, current, and planned coursework to help assess concentration requirements. Access DegreeWorks through your MyBanner account under Student > Student Records.
To verify whether selected courses meet concentration requirements, use DegreeWorks' What-If feature. This function simulates how adding a concentration would affect your academic progress, displaying required courses, completed requirements, and remaining coursework.
