Concentrations represent specialized academic tracks that allow students to delve deeper into a specific field through targeted coursework, hands-on learning, or independent research that extends beyond core requirements. When pursuing a concentration, students enroll in courses through the standard registration process without receiving preferential enrollment status.
Therefore, students should carefully plan their course selections well in advance to ensure they can complete concentration requirements, giving priority to these specialized courses during registration.
Students may undertake up to two concentrations, but must fulfill all requirements for each separately, with no single course or experience counting toward multiple concentrations.
A single course may simultaneously satisfy both the Law School's six-credit experiential learning requirement and a Group C experiential course option within a concentration. Similarly, one course may fulfill both the upper-level writing requirement and a concentration requirement.
The third-year pass/fail grade conversion option is available for graded courses that meet concentration requirements.
Every concentration mandates successful completion of: (1) at least two foundational courses, (2) three or more approved courses, and (3) either an independent research project or experiential course. Detailed requirements can be found in the drop-down menus for each concentration below.
DegreeWorks offers students a personalized planning tool that connects with the online course catalog, delivering real-time information about completed, current, and planned coursework while helping assess how selections align with concentration requirements. Access DegreeWorks by logging into your MyBanner account and navigating to Student Records.
To evaluate how your course selections align with concentration requirements, utilize the What If feature in DegreeWorks. This function lets you preview how adding a concentration would affect your academic progress, displaying required coursework, completed requirements, and remaining courses needed for completion.
