Physicists are scientific generalists who explore the fundamental workings of the universe. A physics background can enhance understanding in other fields and serves as preferred preparation for many pioneering societal endeavors. The department provides various courses for non-science majors to offer this foundational knowledge. The physics department also administers the combined engineering degree program.
The Department of Physics provides a Bachelor of Science in Physics. The requirements for a physics major or minor are quite adaptable, designed to prepare students for either graduate studies in physics or future specialization in other disciplines. A pre-med track is advised for students intending to pursue medical school after graduation. A new Engineering Physics and Applied Design (EPAD) track offers expanded opportunities for practical problem-solving and engineering design.
This concentration targets students interested in research and development within applied sciences and advanced technology. It also seeks to prepare students for graduate programs in materials science and engineering.
