Undergraduates at William & Mary can combine an Arts & Sciences primary major with a secondary education second major through our dual-degree program. Graduates emerge fully prepared to begin their teaching careers immediately.
The School of Education integrates hands-on classroom practice as a vital part of teacher training. Aspiring educators gain diverse experience in public school partnerships, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world teaching situations as they develop professional skills.
During autumn, secondary education students complete at least 60 hours of fieldwork, refining teaching techniques, engaging with pupils, analyzing their experiences, and understanding school environments. This preparation leads to the capstone student teaching semester - a crucial 15-week immersion in spring that solidifies their teaching abilities.
