Wherever people exist, music follows - spanning all cultures and eras. At W&M, you'll discover how to both make music and understand its role in human culture.
Our program draws diverse students. Perhaps you're dedicated to music studies and want to pursue it as a major or minor. Maybe you're interested in conducting independent research. Or you might simply want to experience the pleasure of making and enjoying music.
Our department welcomes students from all backgrounds. Whether you're an aspiring music scholar seeking a degree focus, a researcher pursuing individual projects, or someone who simply loves musical expression, you'll find your place here.
Music enhances life and should be accessible to all. No major or minor is required for music lessons, ensemble participation, or introductory courses. Our concerts welcome everyone - whether you perform or simply appreciate from the audience.
No auditions are necessary for W&M's music program. However, we recommend applicants submit an Arts Supplement with their Common Application, including a music background summary and your goals for participating in our classes, private instruction, and performance groups.
