The Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (AMES) program provides an interdisciplinary approach to exploring the Middle East, East Asia, and South Asia. AMES coursework covers diverse subjects such as regional history, political systems, religious traditions, literary works, visual and media arts, performing arts, cultural practices, and primary languages. Through the Global Studies Program, students can earn a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. Those pursuing AMES choose between two specialization tracks: East Asian Studies or Middle Eastern Studies.
Additionally, AMES offers three minor specialization options: East Asian Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, and South Asian Studies. Both AMES majors and minors are strongly advised to complement their classroom learning with service opportunities, domestic study programs, or international study experiences.
To complete the AMES major, students must fulfill 33 credit hours, which include the foundational AMES 250 course and the culminating AMES 493 capstone. The program encourages advanced scholarly work through AMES 495 and AMES 496 (Senior Honors projects). Prospective students should speak with an AMES faculty advisor to learn more about the available specialization tracks.
