The Deaf Studies program equips students for diverse roles within the deaf community. Participants will develop comprehensive receptive and expressive skills in American Sign Language, along with deep knowledge of deaf culture and history.
Program Learning Objectives
Master ASL vocabulary for everyday communication, academic subjects, healthcare matters, financial topics, family concerns, political discussions, and leisure activities.
Understand figurative language concepts in ASL.
Demonstrate proficiency in spontaneous conversations with fluent ASL users.
Show competence in applying ASL classifiers appropriately according to context and usage guidelines.
Demonstrate understanding of fundamental ASL grammar principles regarding questions, sentence structures, and non-verbal cues.
Apply acquired skills effectively in unscripted real-world scenarios.
