The interdisciplinary undergraduate BPM I program caters to students passionate about merging scientific and artistic disciplines. Centered on the concept of Science Communication Through Visual Arts, this major equips students for professions in biological illustration/visualization or advanced studies in medical illustration. Alumni pursue diverse paths including biocommunications, environmental exhibit design, independent illustration, user experience/interface design, museum exhibition creation, innovative technologies, educational design, and various roles within publishing, academic research, and visual media sectors.
For more than 35 years, BPM I's core approach has balanced artistic and scientific studies, requiring students to complete nearly equivalent coursework in both domains. A key tenet focuses on visual reasoning and creative solutions, while another ensures students master multiple visualization techniques and digital tools, enabling them to select optimal methods for specific communication goals.
