The School of Music offers a BA (Bachelor of Arts) degree program specializing in popular music. Applicants may audition in their preferred musical style, and while learning standard notation is part of the curriculum, it's not required for auditions. Performance requirements are fulfilled through the Popular Music Ensemble (MUS 109), featuring a versatile rock band setup. Private lessons cover diverse popular music styles, aiming to develop professional-level skills for today's music industry.
Music majors share a common core curriculum, with popular music students taking specialized second-year theory courses. Elective options span songwriting, film scoring, music production, music business, and global popular music history. Alongside music-focused classes, students can choose electives in complementary fields such as business, communications, or arts administration to enhance their career prospects in the music world.
