The counselor education program trains counselors to become scholar-practitioners capable of serving diverse communities effectively. The coursework equips future counselors with skills for outreach and advocacy through cooperative partnerships. Students gain hands-on experience applying theories, research, and practical skills, with a focus on wellness strategies, preventive measures, and intervention techniques.
This CACREP-accredited program provides a 60-credit Master of Education degree with options to specialize in either clinical mental health counseling or school counseling. Additionally, students can pursue a 30-credit educational specialist degree in counselor education.
The Clinical Mental Health specialization develops essential knowledge and competencies for counselors working in community settings such as mental health clinics, psychiatric hospitals, addiction treatment centers, family counseling practices, and social service organizations. This generalist program prepares graduates to meet all academic requirements for South Carolina's Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification.
