The Glenn Department of Civil Engineering ranks among the country's leading civil engineering programs. Civil engineering serves as a foundation for careers in structural engineering, construction materials, construction management, geotechnical engineering, transportation systems, water resources, and fluid mechanics. Students may apply certain degree requirements and electives to specialize in one of several designated emphasis areas. Through our Bachelor's-to-Graduate program, eligible seniors can begin their master's degree coursework early. The department provides an ABET-accredited B.S. in Civil Engineering, enabling students to choose from seven emphasis areas to enrich their educational journey. The initial two years of study focus on developing proficiency in calculus, engineering mechanics, physics, and chemistry. In their junior year, students gain comprehensive exposure to core civil engineering disciplines including structures, hydraulics, geotechnics, transportation, environmental engineering, construction materials, and construction engineering and management.
