The Early Modern Studies program offers an interdisciplinary exploration of historical, literary, religious, and philosophical developments during the pivotal era bridging medieval and modern civilizations. This period was characterized by significant transformations including the emergence of printing technology, religious conflicts among Christian denominations, and the formation of contemporary nation-states. The concentration examines what scholars alternatively term the Early Modern period, Renaissance, Reformation, or Tudor-Stuart era in Britain (with some theological studies extending to broader European contexts). Available to students across Claremont Graduate University's School of Arts and Humanities, this program welcomes those specializing in English, history, religion, and cultural studies.
