By examining varied North American literature through a global lens, this certificate strengthens students' skills in applying insights about gender, race, ethnicity, and culture to careers, advanced degrees, and academic pursuits demanding cultural awareness. The program introduces core cultural studies principles through ENG 329 Cultural Studies in Literature, covering research techniques and established analytical frameworks for interpreting texts through cultural lenses. Elective courses explore distinct ethnic-cultural perspectives and narratives of gender/sexual minorities as portrayed in literature. Ultimately, this program equips students with critical tools for interpreting, evaluating, and teaching works from diverse cultural backgrounds.
