The specialization in applied linguistics utilizes linguistic research insights and methodologies to address real-world language challenges. Through intimate, interactive courses, students explore second language learning approaches, investigate connections between language and identity, analyze power dynamics in language use, and engage with sociolinguistic issues impacting education. Students also participate in expanding the Bilingual Corpus of Central Washington through regional language variation research. This program opens diverse opportunities for those pursuing sociolinguistic studies, community organization work, or teaching careers across multiple settings including K-12 schools, adult education programs, language institutes, and international educational environments.
