Our tight-knit mathematical sciences program offers more individualized attention through small class sizes. You'll gain rigorous preparation for effectively teaching college-level mathematics while building skills to lead independent research in your future profession. Doctoral candidates can focus on either mathematics or mathematics education research, collaborating closely with faculty and peers on both academic investigations and instructional activities.
All PhD students complete two semester-long teaching practicums, guiding advanced mathematics courses with faculty mentorship.
As a doctoral candidate, you'll have opportunities to:
Attend presentations by leading scholars through our vibrant colloquium series and specialized research seminars.
Delve into supplementary subjects beyond core requirements via graduate-led seminar discussions.
Engage with dynamic student organizations like our AMS Graduate Student Chapter.
