Gain deeper insights into our world through interactive learning approaches and exceptional research experiences. We provide undergraduate programs in Environmental Science, Geology, and Meteorology, as well as a Ph.D. in Earth and Ecosystem Science. Situated in the Great Lakes region, CMU offers an ideal environment for environmental studies. Our faculty will mentor you to become a scientist capable of shaping our understanding of nature and humanity's place within it. Uncover solutions through CMU's meteorology program—Michigan's sole undergraduate offering in this field. Enhance your learning by engaging in field studies or utilizing CMU's cutting-edge weather station, complete with weather balloons and modern technology. This program aligns with National Weather Service standards, preparing graduates for prominent meteorology roles worldwide. As Michigan's only meteorology major, CMU's curriculum adheres to or surpasses American Meteorological Society and National Weather Service benchmarks. Since 2014, faculty have utilized an advanced digital weather display wall for real-time and predictive weather visualization in classrooms. Students work with professional-grade equipment from our 2013-installed weather station, measuring temperature, humidity, wind patterns, atmospheric conditions, solar radiation, and rainfall. Additionally, faculty conduct weather balloon launches to gather atmospheric data.
