Grasping the historical and cultural context of global economic hubs has become more crucial in today's interconnected financial and business landscape. Blending historical research with other fields offers comprehensive knowledge that's highly relevant across numerous professions. CMU's history education programs equip students with strong foundations for fulfilling teaching careers. Over 50% of CMU's history majors aspire to become educators. Choosing history at CMU also lays the groundwork for advanced studies leading to opportunities in government, education, legal professions, museums, libraries, or archival positions. Our bachelor's programs award B.S. or B.A. degrees in history, or B.S. degrees for secondary, elementary, or special education. Our curriculum covers worldwide history across all periods, featuring experts in American, European (including British, French, Italian, Russian, and German), ancient and medieval, Middle Eastern, Latin American, Asian, and African studies. We can only navigate the future by understanding our past. Exploring previous civilizations' political, cultural, social, and economic systems deepens contemporary insights. A history major or minor cultivates valuable abilities in critical analysis, research, writing, and problem-solving applicable to diverse career paths. Students can participate in international study programs in destinations like the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands. The program also provides excellent preparation for graduate studies in history, law, or business administration.
